Day Fifty Three Paihia to Albany (travel day)

Left Paihia as 12000 Harley Davidson riders were due into town for a big meeting tomorrow. Met some of them on the road doing an Iron Run rally.
We were heading for north of Auckland going down the west coast, Twin Coast Highway. Our landlady had told us about a massive tree we had to see in the Waiipoura Forest. As it turned out this was where the bikers were all headed!
The tree was a short walk through the forest. It's over 2000 years old, a kauri tree, and too big to get into a photo. Also too busy with bikers to take a selfie and too scared to ask one of them to take a photo of us.

Should have had some people in to give an idea of the size but

...  51.5 metres high. Very big!

Rest of the journey long and uneventful. Lots of traffic the closer we got to Auckland. We did encounter rain which was quite heavy for a while but not enough to clean the car which looks like it's come out of a desert!
Left Paihia after 10am. Arrived Albany 5pm. Off to hunt for a supermarket while the washing machine in the apartment does its work! No more car after tomorrow. Back to public transport.
