Day Eighteen Vincentian, Jervis Bay

Well, crushed avocado with feta on toast sprinkled with coriander and chilli was a very fine way to start the day, preceded, of course, by muesli, yoghurt and 6 fresh fruits.

We have landed lucky here. The area is beautiful, coastal walks leading down to all the beautiful, white sandy beaches, walking through National Parks so very jungle like, parrots and other birds tweeting everywhere. We decided to do a 5km walk to Hyamas bay which is where we had tried to get accommodation in original fishermen's cottages.

Shame this  little mannie cant tell a story he'd tell you about a crazy Scotsman who thinks he's indistructible.

Weather sunnyish but a bit windy. Took the car to the starting point, Nelson's beach, and walked over the sandy beach and crossed some rocks, all the time Howard telling me that Captain Cook hadn't landed in this area due to the dangerous rocks and seas. The end of the beach took us up onto the track again and we continued to the next beach. Blenheim Beach. Again, lovely, no one else about. Walked the beach and then came to the end with massive rocks. A little discussion followed with me saying that there was no way I was going over the rocks and our intrepid explorer telling me he was going on.

At that point I turned back and headed for the coastal path, all the time thinking I'd hear the patter of not so tiny feet behind me. No sign of Howie. The track took about 20 minutes to walk to the next beach. When I got to it I waited and waited, thinking about how to call the coastguard with no one about, no telephone but I did have the car keys (although not insured to drive!).  No sign of Howie for about 15 mins. At last ...

In the distance appeared this little figure. Torn between wanting to kill him and a feeling of pure relief I did what I always do, took some photos ....

Nae sweat to the bold hero!! I'm ashamed to say I didn't give him the hero's welcome! No problem, he said but, he didn't want to do the return journey the same way!

Once we'd recovered we continued our amazing walk.  Saw the cottages we wanted to stay in and were seriously annoyed that there was a vacancy sign up on one.

Made it to Hayams bay, lay on the sand for a bit but very windy and sea very choppy so walked back the 5 km on the track.
Back to B&B, showered and said to our host we were going to stay in and have a BBQ (there's an electric BBQ on our veranda). Bought prawns and snags (as you do) and salad. On return, there was a tray of sauces and condiments waiting for us. Cooked the barbie food, only to be interrupted by a kookaburra flying onto the veranda who watched us cook and eat.

Anyone for a prawn from the barbie?

That's it for today. Sundowner wine on the veranda.  Shame Australia is so far from home - could get used to this!
