Day Twenty Nine Travel Day

It's time to leave Melbourne. Woke up this morning to wind, rain and temperature of 14 degrees!!
The only downside of leaving this weather is that there are earthquakes in New Zealand!  Eek! I have vivid memories as a child in Cameroon when there were earthquakes and Mount Cameroon erupting! Scary stuff! My father treated it all as a joke!  There's nothing about it on Oz TV but Sky news says there was one on Sunday in Christchurch (where we're flying to) and one down in the South of the South Island (where we are going to!).
Uneventful day in the town killing time till our flight in the evening. 9600 steps aimlessly wandering! It must burn more calories pulling a 22kg case and carrying a 7 kg rucksack on the back, surely?
Flight to Christchurch with Virgin International - what a bore. No inflight entertainment, no complimentary drink and not even a packet of pretzels for free! Anyway, arrived at midnight  to spend the night at the airport hotel. Getting into the country worse than Oz. Dogs sniffing cases, grilling by border control, all cases getting xrayed. However they let us in with all our luggage. Two Asian visitors not so lucky. Travelling with two large boxes, they said they had no food in them. Turned out they were full of squid!!
The ground hasn't moved so far and no one talking about the 'quakes!!  Howie to collect the van at 10am tomorrow.  The start of a new adventure.
