Set off heading for the Elephant Orphanage, a 90 minute drive. The landscape went from high to low, 4000m with twisty roads and everyone and their granny trying to overtake. Slowly getting used to that - no grab handles left on Mahesh's car though. Had been told by Jenni that this place was amazing! She was right! Totally amazeballs! The start was the elephants enclosures where they sleep etc.
Beautiful scenery with the elephants quite controlled. We crossed a busy road that led to the river and there saw the elephants getting their twice daily baths.
We could have sat here watching them all day. One elephant has one keeper and only responds to his commands. They obviously loved their scrubbing with their coconut husk exfoliations. Felt very privileged to watch this. You could see the different personalities in the elephants. Superb!
Back to reality through the elephant poo shop where all goods are made from their dung. Not such a hard sell on the shop. Got away without purchasing!
As we left they started heading back to the orphanage.
Drive back home. Stopped at tea factory to see how tea goes from 'farm to fork' (haha)! More steps to making tea than making whisky.
Onto lunch and then shops. Hard sell at clothes place where we were encouraged to try on native costume.
Bought some silk and H bought a t shirt. Cheap at half the price! Not! Then onto gem store where we saw the mining process of all the precious gems that SL produces. Very interesting but archaic. The hard sell shop, not so! H couldn't be persuaded to buy a ring - shame!
Last stop botanic gardens. An hour's walk round, quite cool but both quite tired.
